Meeting Minutes for Alpha Chapter
Monday, June 29, 2020
Members present: Betty Barker; Gemma Romo; Melinda Whitney; Kay Kurvers
Eva Larud; Alpha Chi State President Cheryl Anderson, Doris Nachtsheim
The meeting was called to order by President Kay Kurvers at 10:15 a.m.
The first order of business was the installation of Alpha Chapter officers for the
2020-2022 biennium. Kay and Cheryl installed the following officers:
Gemma Romo-President; Betty Barker-Vice-President; Melinda Whitney-Recording Secretary; Susan Burke-Corresponding Secretary. Doris Nachtsheim will continue her appointment as Treasurer; Kay Kurvers is appointed Parliamentarian.
Correction per Kay and Melinda via email on 7/3/20- Susan can't be installed as corresponding secretary unless she is present. So we will have to wait until another meeting where she is present (one way or another) to formally install her.
New Business: Alpha Chapter’s signature card for our Wells Fargo accounts needs to be up-graded. Doris Nachtsheim moved that the officers holding the positions of president, recording secretary, and treasurer should be on the signature card.
The motion was seconded and approved. Kay will contact Wells Fargo to see what steps need to be taken during the Corona Virus epidemic.
State President Cheryl Anderson said there is some question as to whether the
executive board meeting
State Executive Board meeting should take place in Tonopah, September 12, 2020. The other option would be to hold the meeting using Zoom or another portal. After some discussion, Alpha Chapter voted not to go to Tonopah. We will table our Alpha Chapter bylaws review until the state bylaws have been reviewed. Cheryl also suggested we apply our 2018 grant-in-aid as a two year award. After discussion members agreed to wait until the school year begins in order to find out the needs of teachers before awarding our 2020 grant-in-aid. Betty Barker suggested combining it with the Apple Award.
Future Meetings: Because of the Corona Virus increase and mandated restrictions we don’t know how to plan ahead. BUT----we would like to have a Let’s Get Together Zoom gathering on Monday, July 27, 2020. We hope Gemma can set it up for us. We did make a tentative plan for our chapter meeting on September 26. WE aren’t sure of the where or the how.
Respectfully submitted by:
Melinda Whitney—Alpha Chapter Recording Secretary
